Hamilton District Main Street Program
Objective: The Hamilton District Main Street Program (HDMSP) is an urban revitalization program designed to redevelop the Central Business District of Allentown – the Hamilton District. This is done through committees utilizing the Main Street Approach™.
The HDMSP focuses on a variety of tasks that promote downtown Allentown as an exciting place to live, work and play. We market downtown through social media by scheduling posts about downtown happenings on Facebook, Twitter, and our new website – http://www.downtownallentown.com. Other responsibilities include, promoting and participating in the planning and executive of our signature events, such as Summer in the City, Halloween Parade, Restaurant Week, Tree Lighting Ceremony, First Monday, to name a few.
Throughout the internship, one will learn about and understand the Main Street Four-Point Approach and will also be expected to attend committee meetings, Board of Directors meetings and special events, on an as needed basis. The intern may be involved in other programs and activities pertaining to the Allentown Chamber of Commerce and the Hamilton District Main Street Program, including business seminars and social and networking events.
Organization Description: The boundaries of the Hamilton District Main Street Program consist of the area from 5th Street to 12th Street, from Walnut to Linden Streets, and are supported by adjoining city neighborhoods and the riverfront. The HDMSP is an association of businesses, non-profit organizations and individuals, having partnered with the Allentown Chamber of Commerce of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce Foundation, for the purpose of stimulating economic activity and enhancing the quality of life for business owners, community groups and associations, employees, visitors and residents within the Hamilton District of Allentown, It is the Program’s mission to help create, maintain and expand an environment conducive to the revitalization of the District.
Assist in planning and executing special events, festivals, and community projects to further the growth and development of Downtown Allentown.
Attend meetings for each of the following Hamilton District Main Street Program Committees: Business Development, Design, Marketing, Organization, and Safe, Clean & Green. Learn more at http://www.padowntown.org/programs-services/main-street.
Assist in managing social media & website maintenance on a regular basis.
Assist in creating and maintaining a database of business properties in the Hamilton District.
Basic office duties, including photocopying, taking meeting minutes, processing AMP (Allentown Merchant Program) gift cards, etc.
Time Commitment: The intern will report to Miriam Huertas, Sr. Vice President for Allentown Initiatives and Elizabeth Regan, Marketing Coordinator for Allentown Initiatives. Flexible schedule: approximately 15-20 hours per week, however longer hours may be required for special events. May be asked, but not required to attend events in the evenings.
